Martina Halsema has been appointed the new director of Amsterdam Art, taking over from Nina Folkersma as of January 1, 2023. Halsema has been with Amsterdam Art since 2020 as Head of Program and Partnerships and knows the organization and the partners associated with Amsterdam Art through and through.
Martina Halsema: “As director, I look forward to strengthening the connection between the many contemporary art institutions and initiatives the city has to offer. Amsterdam intrigues me because of its unique and experimental character. The city is unique because of the presence of residencies like the Rijksakademie and the Ateliers, the galleries, the project spaces and the museums where artists can experiment and grow. Amsterdam Art Week brings this unique ecosystem to the attention of a national and international audience. I look forward to working with all participants to strengthen Amsterdam’s position as a contemporary visual arts city and to jointly make the upcoming editions a success.”
AA also manages the Amsterdam Art Week. The event turns the capital into an international meeting place for art lovers, collectors, art professionals and promising and renowned artists. For five days you will be introduced to the latest developments in contemporary art at the more than 50 participating galleries, project spaces, museums and residencies. They will present a varied program of exhibitions, performances, screenings, lectures and artists’ talks.
Mark the date in your calendar: the 11th edition of Amsterdam Art Week will take place from May 31 to June 4, 2023.
