¡Viva México!

This year Material Art Fair opens Feb 8-11, 2024 at the Venue: Expo Reforma.
Celebrating 10 years of Feria Material, Latin America’s most beloved contemporary art fair, as we return to Expo Reforma in Mexico City’s vibrant Juarez neighborhood. The fair will feature two floors of galleries presenting exceptional artists from Mexico and all over the world, as well as an exciting program of talks, screenings, performances, and other activities.

Some of the Mexican galleries include Mascota, LODOS, Llano, Enrique Guerrero (all CDMX), and others Galleries include 80m2 Livia Benavides (Lima) Chris Sharp Gallery (Los Angeles), Berthold Pott (Cologne) MICKEY (Chicago), Suprainfinite (Bucharest), Charim (Vienna), Nora Fisch (Buenos Aires).. this year offerings feel a bit less edgy than previous years- but also reflects a wider view on Mexican contemporary art presenting new and emerging galleries from Guadalajara, Ciudad Juárez, Oaxaca, Cuernavaca and Tijuana.

Zonamaco Contemporary Art Fair

At the main fair Zsona Maco holds its 20th anniversary and shows it still has some energy with an excellent program of Modern and contemporary galleries. Zsona’s director Zelika Garcia has managed to bring a bit of art bling to the booming CDMX art scene.
From the international Main Section, the galleries present include Galleria Continua (8 locations), Galeria Erhardt Florez (Madrid), KOW (Berlin), Modern Art (London) as well as key Mexican galleries such as Kurimanzutto, OMR, Proyectos Monclova, Labor, and many others.

Afterward, the Jetset are off to Los Angeles for the so-called ‘Frieze Week’ from Frieze LA and Felix Hotel Fair where the Hollywood hype machine kicks into gear with media outlets such as the LA Times, Forbes, and the Financial Times all sending there business & entertainment paparazzi looking for celebrity sightings and reports on which celeb bought which work and spotted at which gallery.


With all the recent mega gallery openings in LA with last year’s David Zwirner space opening in Korea Town. This year’s assortment of new (franchise) galleries Perrotin and CLEARING adds to ongoing blue chipification Hauser & Wirth, Marian Goodman, and Lisson who have all opened dependants in the last few years.
